Call for Young Exploratory Researchers

In recent years, and more than before, the internet has given another dimension to the existing links between the “real” world and the “virtual” world, particularly through digital platforms, social networks and online video games.
In this context, the semioverse project aims to study how immersive “virtual worlds” allow groups of individuals to form a society, to constitute their own cultures around common beliefs and references. We will first seek to bring together a multidisciplinary team in order to define the current means and perspectives of an anthropological approach to online cultures and digital space based on the study of discourse and semiotics. Then, we will study more concretely how social networks (like Facebook or Twitter) and online video games allow individuals to create communities. Keywords: digital, social networks, immersion, metaverse, cultures, semiotics, anthropology, video games, beliefs
