Axis 3 “Evolving Humanities”

Coordination: Mathilde Lequin (PACEA – University of Bordeaux)

What does the human described by Plato, Darwin, Beauvoir or Leroi-Gourhan look like? What would an actor who had to play him do and what advice should the director give him to embody this theoretical human? On the occasion of the publication of the Dictionary of Anthropologies (dir. Mathilde Lequin and Albert Piette, Presses universitaire de Nanterre, 2022), this study day will show the diversity of human figures from different intellectual traditions, from philosophy and human and social sciences to natural sciences, from Greco-Roman or Chinese Antiquity to the Renaissance and contemporary times. This day will bring together representatives from various disciplines who will present some of the emblematic conceptions of the human presented in this work comprising around a hundred notices, from A like Adorno to W like Wittgenstein.
